Programme: 'Heno
Bydd Yr Adar Yn Canu' presented by Nia Melville
Studio: Stiwdio Fflach, Aberteifi
(Cardigan)
Produced by: GZM/Wyn Jones
Engineered by: Wyn Jones
Transmitted: 28 Apr 91 on
Radio Cymru
Line-up: John Lawrence (guitar/organ);
Euros Childs (vocals); Richard James (bass); Sion Lane (organ);
Steffan Cravos (violin) plus Korg drum machine. Tracks recorded: Peanut Dispenser
Lladd Eich Gwraig
Dafad Yn Siarad
Oscar Marzaroli
NB All tracks available on 'Patio' CD/Cass (Ankst 055)
Diary: First
we laid down the basic rhythms - bass, organ, drum machine.
When I heard just those instruments I thought 'this is
bloody iffy' as Andrew (producer) and Wyn (engineer)
gave the "how the fuck did
they get this recording session" to each other. After dinner
we recorded guitar bits for every song. Then it was my turn
to put on the headphones, sing into a large mic while John
told me where to come in. 'Peanut Dispenser' was given double
tracked vocals amaaazin. By the end Andrew was tapping his
toes to us. Overall it was a brilliant experience and we
sounded professional.
Programme: 'Fideo
9' Music Programme ('Mefus A Chadno') and 'Syth 91' S4C Children's
Music Programme ('Siwper Heb Grys')
Produced by: GZM/Neil White
Engineered by: Steve Howard
Transmitted: 3 Oct 91 for
'Mefus A Chadno' on 'Fideo 9' and 15 Oct 91 for 'Siwmper Heb
Grys' on 'Syth 91' (Diary entry: The cheapest pile of shit I've
ever seen. An insult to a song like 'Siwmper Heb Grys'. Still
we got £170 each).
Line-up: As above except Osian Evans (drums) and Cennwyn Brain
(12 string acoustic guitar).
Tracks recorded: Mefus A Chadno
Siwmper Heb Grys
NB 'Mefus A Chadno' available on 'Patio' CD/Cass (Ankst 055)
Diary: Our
producer for this session was Neil White. His influence
can be heard on 'Mefus A Chadno', he added percussion
playing effects from the synthesizer. The production
reminds me of Joy Division. Osian (drummer) is a truly
great drummer and improves our sound by miles. Back at
the hotel on Saturday night (all expenses paid) we played
our new tracks down the phone to Nia Melville. She was
enthusiastic and said something about 'Rio' or 'Latin
America'.

RADIO CYMRU SESSION

NOV 91
Programme: 'Heno
Bydd Yr Adar Yn Canu' presented by Nia Melville
Studio: BBC Llandaf
Produced by: GZM/Gareth Morlais
Transmitted: Dec 91 on Radio Cymru
Line-up: John Lawrence (guitars); Euros Childs (vocals); Richard
James (bass); Sion Lane (organ); Steffan Cravos (violin); Osian
Evans (drums); Cennwyn Brain (guitars)
Tracks recorded: Mr Groovy
Ti! Moses
Miriam O Farbel
Dean Ser
NB All tracks available on 'Patio' CD/Cass (Ankst 055)
Diary: With
'Mirian O Farbel' Osian didn't even know the song, we
had to teach him there and then, same goes for Cennwyn's
acoustic guitar and Cravos's violin. 'Ti! Moses' captured
the energy of a live performance or spirit anyway. We
travelled back on the minibus with no tape of the session
coz Morlias and his BBC regulations, but we had the thought
that we are the future. Well after this session anyway!
